New dust extraction system does the trick for Hiway Stabilisers

The Problem:

The Hiway Group have developed a purpose-built fleet of specialist equipment such as the Ground Stabiliser, in order to undertake stabilisation projects cost effectively and to the highest quality. New Zealand’s' largest specialist stabilising road construction contractor, Hiway Stabilisers, are a very experienced general and civil works contractor throughout greater Auckland areas and other regions of New Zealand. But the huge road-working trucks they maintain come into the shed with engines running; their fumes and smoke added to those generated from a very busy workshop with several welding bays servicing the entire Hiway’s Group. NZ Duct+Flex was asked to quote for a full upgrade to the extraction system.

The Solution:

Having a fully cohesive extraction system that reflected their own high standards was critical. To meet this request, a European designed and manufactured Fume Filter 9000 (capable of 9000m³/h) was installed with plenty of extraction for the 6 Fume arms ordered from NZ Duct+Flex. Everything being modular, it all comes apart easily so next year it can be re–installed in the new expanded workshop.

Designed for extraction and cleaning of dry air particles, generated through welding, grinding, polishing, sifting, milling as well as metal and plastics cutting, air enters the fume filter via an integrated pre-filter. This is to catch larger particles that might damage the filter cartridges – for example welding sparks. The air then flows through the filtration compartments where pollutants become separated; any dust falls down into the collecting drawers. Clean air passes though the filters to the fan and hence to the atmosphere.

The ‘dust’ drawers are easily pulled out for emptying, and there are large filter cartridge access doors to make changing easy. The top of the unit contains the compressed air cleaning compartment and tanks. This range of filters launched by NZ Duct+Flex is available as 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 compartments to suit varying volumes required.

Happy Customer:

Ray Davies confirms that the extraction is working beyond his expectations and the work environment has improved dramatically for his staff. “We expected the extraction system to deal with the welding fumes but it also creates an air flow which helps deal with the truck engine fumes and general fug that used to build up during the day. Since the unit has been installed the staff are a lot happier about performing their duties and the NZDuct+Flex team did a great job.”
